Interesting report. I like hearing the details of the non-flying parts of trips, and you didn't disappoint on this one. Cabo sounds like a beautiful place, but with all the hucksters it also sounds like there are better choices for a beach vacation. Was it at least cheap or have the tourists driven up the prices?

I think LAX is definitely the best spotting airport in the U.S.

That's a big claim but you could be right. I think the top U.S. spotting airports are JFK, MIA, LAX and SFO. Second-tier would be IAD, EWR, ORD and BOS. I'm going to have to give JFK the top spot simply by virtue of the number of non-U.S. airlines operating there. Not a lot of 747s at JFK, but plenty of other widebodies. MIA at one time had the distinction of having the most airlines of any U.S. airport, but things have gotten a lot less interesting there over the past 10 years. I've spent very little time at HNL but I'll bet they get a lot of pretty exotic flights.

Later in the flight we were handed Mexican forms, which had two entertaining typos: Dont forget to sing in the box specified for foreigner on the immigration form, and a list of permitted items on the customs form which included a potable musical instrument.

During my last Mexico City trip in December, I didn't have a problem with typos on the immigration form - mainly because American Airlines hadn't loaded English-language forms onto the plane and they weren't available in the immigration area, either. I don't speak Spanish so I had to guess at the questions. They let me into their country, so I must not have been too far off the mark.

One of the worst livery changes IMO. I loved the Mayan pattern.

My favorite Mexicana livery was the 1970s-era gold-and-black cheatline scheme. That was a real classic and I was sorry to see it go. It looked fantastic on the 727 type.
