I avoid close connections at MSP especially because the terminal is so spread out. Scheduled connect times of less than an hour are risky for me. I have recently seen pax at BOS denied boarding on UA who arrived at the gate within the ten minute cut off. The flights left full after giving those seats to pax who had no seat assignments. These pax became standbys on the next flight which was three hours later the same day. I recall reading Machiavelli's "The Prince" in high school and he described how airlines use short connect times to deny boarding to those who are late to the gate. This way they can overbook and count on "no shows". I have been boarded at the last minute when there were a few empty seats.
