When I moved to Newfoundland as a teen I was curious when I would see my first moose.

On one of the first camping trips my wife and I took to the interior of Maine, we decided we were going to go find a moose. We walked up a logging road and tromped around in some woods for quite some time with no luck. Turns out we hadn't done our research and were looking in exactly the wrong place. Moose like marshy areas, not deep woods. On subsequent trips to Alaska and Colorado, we saw more moose than you can shake a stick at.

And to this day, the only moose we've seen in Maine came galloping at full speed across a busy U.S. Highway 1 in southern Maine, having been spooked by an oncoming freight train while he was walking along the tracks.
