On Saturday around noon I departed to MSP from the Delta concourse at DCA for a smooth and comfortable flight. Once at MSP I headed for the Delta lounge to relax before my departure for San Jose. It was spacious and comfortable but offered no view. Arrived at SJC and rode the bus to the light rail station and my hotel a block away, the Fairfield Inn by Marriott. After refreshing in my room I went out. When I returned I met a guy who had been on the last segment with me. Anyway, I made sure I had a wake up call and other backups due to my early morning return flight.
On Sunday morning I rode in a taxi to the airport (too early for the hotel shuttle or the bus). I had printed my boarding docs at the hotel. TSA security was quick and easy. They were offering upgrades to first class for a fee. The flight was not oversold.
After takeoff breakfast was served. My special meal (vegan) was very tasty. We landed at MSP.
I went straight to my connecting gate. A few nervous travelers formed a queue and I overheard one say he had been bumped from an earlier flight to DCA. I jumped over some furnature and volunteered my services and was accepted. No call for volunteers was ever made. Once boarding was complete they went aboard the plane and returned with the only other volunteer they needed. We were both vouchered and rebooked. The agents had managed to square the circle and protect me with a first class seat. They said there were no more seats to DCA from MSP the rest of the day.
My new flight was full - not oversold. Good trip to DCA.
I have already used my voucher for a flight to LAX in May.
