Haven't posted in awhile although I do keep up with FaceBook. The job I took in late 2012 is wonderful but has very little slack time and almost no travel. Our only personal trip involving flight so far this year was a USAirways flight that got delayed at MCI so many times we told them to give us a refund because we' arrive too late for planned activities and went back home. (It eventually took off 8 hours late.)
Anyway- we're planning on going to Europe again next year. It has to be Business Class- Ron and I have decided life is too short to spend 8 hours scrunched up in Coach. We've managed up to now with fewer trips to Europe and getting at least one on miles, but the airlines are getting stingier with award travel and I'm seriously considering going to a straight cash-back card and paying for travel outright.
I nearly died when I got on Orbitz and looked at flights to London. $4,200 in Business Class per person- all the major airlines within $10 of that. (Can you say, "Collusion"?) We're likely to go in Fall, 2015 so I checked September, October and November dates in 2014- all within that magic $4,200 point.
Then I checked Virgin Atlantic. $2,200 pp. Not chump change but we could do it without raiding the retirement funds. Back at my old company, the London-based people LOVED Virgin Atlantic Business Class, so it's not like we're looking at the Business Class version of Spirit Airlines.
Now I'm happy again (although I know plenty can change between now and when we book). But why don't they charge what the others are charging?
