I cashed in some UA frequent flyer award miles for this itinerary: IAD-FRA-TXL and PRG-GVA-LHR-IAD. First two segments were on LH. I traveled by train from Berlin to Dresden and on to Prague. The difference between LH and UA on the transatlantic segments is this: on LH the food and beverages are much nicer. On UA I get more legroom in economy plus. Interesting trade. This was my first experience with the LH A340-600 which has all five economy class lavatories below deck.
MY first two nights in Berlin were at the Hampton Inn West, about a block from the Ku'damm. I spent my last night at a Courtyard at Spittalmarkt.
In Dresden I stayed at the Westin Hotel on the Elbe River. I love old buildings so I was quite happy here. I enjoyed getting around Dresden on the trams so I can see where I am going. So helpful when visiting a city for the first time.
The rail trip to Prague was scenic. We were along side of the river much of the way.
My first visit to Prague. I already know I wish to return. I stayed in the Courtyard Flora which a friend recommended. I spent my last night at a Courtyard at the airport so I would have a head start on my departure morning.
I was very surprised to find about eight Loving Hut Vegan Restaurants in Prague. I dined at the one near the Museum subway stop. It was delightful.
My trip home was a struggle. Itinerary: PRG-GVA-LHR-IAD with the first two segments on Swiss International and the last on UA. Changing planes at GVA was cumbersome and time consuming. Changing planes at LHR was even worse. I need so simplify my travels in the future.
I forgot to mention that I was on a mission. John wanted me to visit the showroom of the KPM porcelain manufacture located near the Tiergarten S-Bhf station. . His item will be hand painted and shipped. It was nice to have this little errand to run and give me this new experience.
