With the changes in the UA loyalty program the traditional mileage run makes little sense unless like me you are aiming for two million lifetime miles.
Itinerary: DCA-ORD-LAX-ORD-DCA. Aircraft: B738, B739, B739 and B738. Same day out and back.
I was upgraded to first on the first segment. Nice. I had two hours at ORD outbound. Then arrived at LAX where I saw a bunch of A380's: two Qantas, one British, one Asiana, We taxied past a UA B787 bound for IAH. I was scheduled to be on the ground for just less than an hour but due to late arrival of inbound aircraft we were going to be about a half an hour late.
We departed LAX to the west as usual then made a long "U" turn and flew over the airport headed east. Never done that before. Anyway, we arrived at ORD only twenty minutes late. I had to run from gate B1 to C27 and was out of breath when I made it onto the plane and they closed the door.
Glad to see BWI. Just a bit closer to two million lifetime miles now.
